Nuclear Power Generation and Construction

Hunterston Power StationCivil nuclear power is a demanding environment for project work, both new build and maintenance of the existing fleet. New build requires the mobilisation of major projects on a scale not seen in the industry for many years or even decades, with the attendant shortage of skills. Capital maintenance of the existing fleet is in many ways a similarly challenging task though in a different way. The complexity of intervening safely on and around operational plant in order to extend its life, while simultaneously maximising generation gives rise to complex programme management problems in which work contributions must be co-ordinated from many different parts of the organisations involved, some of which have many conflicting demands upon them. Programme management, leadership and influencing skills of a high order are required.
